Kbeauty Step 5 – Serums/Ampoules : TIAM My Signature C Source Vitamin C Serum Review
When I was first introduced to Kbeauty, I always heard that ‘serums are the most important and the most expensive part in kbeauty’ and still until only recently I never used a serum. The biggest reason being the price. I was never sure if spending that huge amount on those tiny little bottles would be worth it. And boy was I wrong! And now once I started using serums I am totally in love with them! Serums are having a moment. Open any beauty blog, magazine or product lover’s medicine cabinet, and you’re sure to see the latest must-have skin serum popping up right between the cleanser and moisturizer. And the hype about them is kinda worth it when you see the effects on your skin.
What is a serum?
Serum is a skin care product you can apply to your skin after cleansing but before moisturizing with the intent of delivering powerful ingredients directly into the skin. Serum is particularly suited to this task because it is made up of smaller molecules that can penetrate deeply into the skin and deliver a very high concentration of active ingredients. This makes them a great tool for targeting specific skincare concerns, like wrinkles.
But I still stay confused as to what exactly a serum is… because some of them are moisturizing, but you still use a moisturizer, a serum can also be oily, but it’s not necessarily a face oil and it can be watery, but it is not an essence! It’s confusingly good!
Is serum absolutely necessary?
I agree serums are expensive and there are most of you out there who have their doubts about spending so much on that tiny bottle. But trust me… every penny of yours will be worth it! or picking up a serum you must know your skin type and suitable ingredients well… Here is a little research on the ingredients that I did while searching for a serum myself –
- Acne-prone: Look for vitamin C (increases collagen production, enhances skin’s repair process, and reduces inflammation), retinol (also an antioxidant, reduces inflammation), zinc (soothes irritation, regulates oil production), and salicylic acid (unclogs pores).
- Dry skin: Look for vitamin E (an antioxidant, protects cells from oxidative damage), niacinamide (improves skin elasticity, increases ceramide levels in skin), glycolic acid (gently exfoliates and lightens discoloration), and hyaluronic acid (retains moisture).
- Dull Skin: Look for antioxidants like green tea extract, resveratrol, ferulic acid (these combat free radicals, increase effectiveness of sunscreen by day, and promote cellular repair and healing by night).
**A patch test is always recommended.
My Kbeauty routine
It’s only recently that I have incorporated serums and ampoules in my skin routine and I have totally fallen in love. I am using an ampoule in my Morning (AM) routine – Mizon Hyarulonic Acid 100 Ampoule Review and I have a serum in my night routine.
Step 5 : Serums
When I was ordering my serums I kept a lot of things in mind and I wanted a serum that would not burn a hole in my pocket and also to target my skin concerns. I went through a lot of reviews and asked around a lot of people who were into kbeauty and I settled upon this.
Tiam My Signature C Source Vitamin C Serum (formerly O.S.T C20)
What is it? – This product used to be known as the O.S.T. C20 serum and Tiam (the company that produces the serum) is part of the CosRx family. My Signature C Source Serum contains about 6,000mg of 100% Pure Vitamin C. It contains 20% concentration of L-Ascorbic acid, which maximize the benefits, and additional feature of peeling function. As natural antioxidants, it helps prevent premature signs of aging, while it protects, softens and moisturizes your skin.
What does it say? – My Signature C Source Serum not only offers whitening, exfoliation and pore care effect, but also helps smooth the rough area on your skin, caused by spots or acne breakouts, when used regularly or long-term. After using the serum, research shows positive result on skin condition.
Priced at – 1300/- for 30ml
Ingredients – Water, Ascorbic Acid, Alcohol, Sodium Lactate, Butylene Glycol, Glucose, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Xanthan Gum, Diethoxyethyl Succinate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Flower Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Glycerin, Zinc PCA, Panthenol, Niacinamide, t-Butyl Alcohol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Beta-Glucan, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Ubiquinone, Diisopropyl Adipate
Packaging and Fragrance – This serum comes with a dropper, which I absolutely love because they are hygienic, easy to use, and easy to control amount of product. The dark-colored glass bottle also helps to protect the product from oxidization. And talking about the fragrance – it’s a fresh and fruity, citrus orange scent, and it really hits you when you first use the product. It fades quite quickly, but that first whiff is strong and glorious.
Storage – Once opened, it is advisable that you store this serum in a cool and dark place away from sunlight. The reason being that vitamin C is sensitive to light and if exposed too often can oxidize quickly. When this happens, the serum loses its effectiveness. Best if kept in a refrigerator.
I agree my skin is fairly bright but I have my own share of skin concerns. I keep getting tiny pimples and redness and I am very prone to skin tanning and dullness and my skin has uneven skin tone. And the tiny pimples that I often get leaves marks on my skin 🙁
However with this serum, I see the scars fading away so much faster. There is an instant glow as soon as you apply the serum and the best part is… the serum is not at all heavy! I won’t say that the serum has prevented pimples from coming because I still have sudden breakouts ( the frequency has reduced though) but I see a lot of improvement in controlling the redness and the marks from these breakouts fade out so much more faster!
– Pros –
- Affordable price.
- Highly effective against acne and acne scars.
- Improves skin texture.
- Packaged in a dark bottle to delay its oxidation.
- Contain a high amount of vitamin C
– Cons –
Because this serum needs to be kept at a cooler temperature it’s not a very travel friendly bottle if you are going to a place which is hot. That’s the only negative point I could find in this serum.
Will I rebuy ?
I see myself incorporating more of Vitamin C products in my skin routine and this serum is going nowhere from my routine!
That’s all for the day guys 🙂 Till next time…
Keep Glowing ! <3
